How much does a web site cost?

There are quite a few factors that are going to affect the ultimate cost of your web site. These factors include how many pages you are going to have, if you will sell products on your website, the graphic work involved, and how interactive your future web site will be. You will also need web hosting and domain name registration.

How long does it take to have a web site designed?

The time frame is determined by the size of your web site, the complexity of your site design, and our current client design schedule.

What is a URL?

It stands for "universal resource locator". This is the address typed in to view your web page on the Internet. For example, you would type in http://www.dawnit.net to access our home page.

What is a domain name and do I need one?

A domain name is the unique name that identifies a web site. Our domain name is "dawnit.net". Domain names comprise either: a name and a classification code (eg dawnit.net, ireland.com); a name and a country code (eg leinsterrugby.ie, ferrari.it); or a name, a classification code, and a country code (eg bbc.co.uk, tnz.co.nz). Every web site needs a domain name and there are many benefits to owning one.

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is a fee that you pay to have your site put on a server to allow it to be accessible on the Internet. Your web site or web page(s) are hosted, or stored, on a computer (an http server) that is permanently connected to the Internet so that it can be seen by anyone connected to the Internet at any time

What is site maintenance?

Maintenance is updating a website with new and fresh content. Most good web sites have new content updated regularly. Fresh content is what will keep your visitors coming back.

Why can't I find my web site in the search engines?

Once your site has been submitted to the top Search Engines they may require several weeks, or even months to actually spider and list your web site in their directory. How fast your site is listed depends on each individual Search Engines database update schedule. Watch your server traffic logs for visiting spiders. The best search engines to register with are Google, Yahoo!, Alta Vista, Infoseek and Hotbot.

What size screen resolution do you design your websites for?

Our sites are designed for 1024x768 computer screens. The majority of computer screens that surf the Internet use this resolution.

What is Cold Fusion?

ColdFusion is a product that enables you to build interactive websites quickly. ColdFusion allows you to write a web-based application that can connect to a database, thereby creating powerful Internet applications. ColdFusion was developed by Allaire and has now been further refined by Macromedia. A ColdFusion website can be indentified by the .cfm extension in their filenames.

What is a dynamic website?

To the website visitor, a dynamic website appears the same as any other website. However, dynamic sites draw their content from a database, and offer FUNCTIONALITY to users that 'static' websites cannot - browsing an online catalog, sending/receiving e-mail from within the site, downloading files, getting updated news, etc. They tend to be E-commerce based, but databases can enhance the functionality of almost any kind of site. The opposite are 'static' websites (like .html) where you only see exactly what was typed by the designer. Dynamic websites (like .asp or .cfm) allow for much more user interactivity and a slicker website.

What is Content Management?

Content Management is a method of adding and updating content on websites through a backend system without having to know any web language code like html or cfm.
